The Houston market is shifting, and distressed properties are a growing share of it:
• Houston led the nation in bank repossessions in August 2026 with 448 REOs, and Texas led all states with 1,835. Completed foreclosures nationwide rose 42% year over year (ATTOM).
• 30-year mortgage rates climbed from 6.66% in late August to about 7.4% in early October, cutting buyers' purchasing power by about 7% (Realtor.com).
• Houston inventory rose 6.3% to 40,192 active listings, a 5.5-month supply, while pending sales fell 11.6% in September. The median price held at $325,000 (HAR).
• Condos and townhomes are under the most pressure: closings fell 21% and the median price dropped 9.1% (HAR).
• About two-thirds of large U.S. metros now favor buyers or are moving that way (Realtor.com).
What this means: banks and servicers need experienced local REO brokers, homeowners behind on payments need short sale options before foreclosure, and investors have more opportunities to buy. God's Asset Realty serves all three.
